Cengage Learning Names Dean Durbin as Chief Financial Officer

    Cengage Learning, one of the world’s leading providers of print and digital information services for the educational and library reference markets, today announced the appointment of Dean D. Durbin as Chief Financial Officer. Durbin, who will join Cengage Learning on July 27th, will serve on the company’s executive committee and report to Ronald Dunn, President and Chief Executive Officer.

    “Dean is an accomplished executive who brings a wealth of highly relevant experience and a strong track record at both public and private equity-owned companies to this role,” said Dunn. “I am pleased to welcome him to Cengage Learning and look forward to working closely with him to drive continued success in our business.”

    Durbin comes to Cengage Learning from American Media, Inc., publisher and distributor of newspapers and magazines, where he has been serving as Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining American Media, over a 10-year period he served as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and in his last two years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Vertis Communications, Inc., a marketing services company.

    Earlier, Durbin served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Thomson Professional Publishing, a division of The Thomson Corporation from 1995-1997. Durbin started his career at the McGraw-Hill Companies where in his 20 years of service he advanced through a variety of senior financial management positions in the company’s publishing and information services divisions.

    Durbin graduated from St. Francis University, Loretto, PA in 1974 with a B.S. in Accounting.
