Delmar, part of Cengage Learning and a leading provider of learning solutions for ongoing career development and education, participated in the 46th annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC). More than five-thousand outstanding career and technical education students from across the country met last month at the conference in Kansas City, Missouri to compete in 96 different trade, technical and leadership categories.
SkillsUSA, a national nonprofit organization serving high school and college students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, hosts the annual conference to recognize and develop future leaders. Delmar is committed to lifelong learning and the skills-based professional, making it an ideal partner for the SkillsUSA NLSC event.
At this year’s event, Delmar provided support for various building trades student competitions. Delmar worked with the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors (PHCC) Educational Foundation—one of its publishing partners—to set-up this year’s Plumbing Competition. Delmar representatives also serve on the technical committee for the Sustainability Solutions Competition and helped judge this year’s competition. Additionally, Delmar awarded books from its DEWALT® reference series to the first, second and third place winners of seven building trades-related competitions—Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing, Cabinetmaking, Building Maintenance, HVACR and Residential Wiring.
“Even in this difficult economy, demand for skilled labor remains strong, and we are committed to providing students with the solutions-based materials they need to learn and master their competencies and skills before they enter the professional world and the reference materials for them to succeed as Pros,” said Greg Clayton, Vice President, Delmar. “We are proud to support the SkillsUSA organization and all of the students at this year’s conference.”
Delmar was again the exclusive sponsor of the prestigious Advisor of the Year Award, which is given to a high school or secondary school instructor whose teaching program has had a successful impact on students. Delmar representatives interviewed all of the candidates and awarded the winner during the conference’s opening ceremony. Cengage Learning employees also served on various committees and provided support for competitions in the areas of automotive skills and beauty and wellness skills.
