Recipient Recognized for Commitment to Educational Excellence
Milady, part of Cengage Learning and a leading provider of beauty and wellness learning solutions, and The Cosmetology Educators of America (CEA), the educational committee of the American Association of Cosmetology Schools, today announced that Ms. Jacqueline Munoz is the 2010 recipient of the Nicholas F. Cimaglia Educator of the Year Award. The Educator of the Year Award is co-sponsored by the CEA and Milady, and is given annually to an educator who exhibits significant contributions toward upgrading professional standards of educational excellence, particularly within the area of student involvement. The award was presented last month at the 16th Annual CEA Convention in Orlando, Florida.
Munoz, the director of cosmetology education at the Marinello School of Beauty in Bell, California, realized her passion for cosmetology when she competed in and won a local student style competition. From there, she decided to pursue a career in the beauty industry and enrolled in beauty school where she used a Milady textbook for studying. As a student, she took such copious notes in her textbook that years later when she became an educator, she used that same textbook to help explain concepts to her students.
After graduating from beauty school, Munoz worked in a salon for several years, but found her true calling, education, after attending a CEA conference in 1997. Inspired by her experience at the conference, she decided to become an educator. Ms. Munoz has dedicated the last twelve years to cosmetology education. She prides herself on being a cheerleader in the classroom and strongly believes in the power of positive reinforcement.
“We are excited to present Ms. Munoz with this prestigious award as she exhibits a true dedication and commitment to her students,” said Dawn Gerrain, president, Milady. “Her passion and unwavering devotion to cosmetology education is a reflection of the values we hold here at Milady.”
As the recipient of the Nicholas F. Cimaglia Educator of the Year Award, Munoz received an all-expenses-paid trip to Orlando, where she was honored at the CEA convention. In addition, she received a cash prize of $2,500 and gifts from Milady and the CEA.
