Cengage Learning Joins Local Organizations to Prepare Students for the School Year

Employee volunteer efforts support thousands of Boston Public School students in need

Boston, MA, August 18, 2015 – To support local students, more than 100 Cengage Learning employees from the company’s Boston Headquarters will volunteer over the course of three days for the City of Boston’s Back to School Celebration.  The Back to School Celebration, a partnership between the City of Boston, the Garden Neighborhood Charities and The Salvation Army, prepares students for the school year by providing backpacks, school supplies and support valuable to their personal development and growth.

“Corporate partners play a vital role in the fabric of our community,” said Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh.  “I’m pleased Cengage Learning is leading the way in demonstrating good corporate citizenship and a genuine commitment to the power of education, as well as to the Boston community.  By working together, we can help ensure Boston Public School students are set up for success when they enter the classroom.”

With the goal of providing school supplies to more than 4,000 Boston Public School students, Cengage Learning employees will assist in the effort by preparing backpacks with school supplies and participating in the Back to School Celebration Day.  During the event, children and their parents will have a fun-filled day with games, family-friendly activities and experiential learning booths.

“At Cengage Learning, we believe in the power and joy of learning, and empowering students to be successful and engaged learners is at the root of everything we do,” said George Moore, Chief Technology Officer at Cengage Learning.  “Yet, in order for students to achieve their full academic potential, it is crucial for students to be equipped with the materials and tools they need to succeed in the classroom. Partnering with Garden Neighborhood Charities and The Salvation Army on this important initiative gives Cengage Learning and our local employees an opportunity to support City of Boston students and make a positive impact on education in our community.”

In 2014, the Back to School Celebration supported 4,500 children and youth.  For more information, visit http://massachusetts.salvationarmy.org/MA/BOSB2School.
