Cengage Named Finalist in BostInno’s 50 on Fire Awards for Education and Technology Innovation

Recognition Marks Second Consecutive Year of Distinction

BOSTON, Nov. 7, 2016 – Cengage joins game-changers, creators and disruptors from Boston and beyond as a finalist for BostInno’s “50 on Fire” Awards. Recognizing the region’s most innovative individuals and organizations across eleven industries, the award highlights progress and breakthroughs made throughout the year.  This is the second consecutive year Cengage has received this recognition.

“We’re honored BostInno has identified us as a game-changer in the city’s innovation ecosystem,” said George Moore, Chief Technology Officer, Cengage. “As Cengage continues to evolve as an education and technology company, our commitment to building tools that provide learners with the confidence to succeed only grows stronger. Our student-centered design process ensures that we are creating solutions that work for all students, not just the average student.”

With student success as the driving force, Cengage announced a number of product and organizational innovations in 2016, including:

  • Upgrades to the MindTap Mobile app, enabling students to download their entire textbooks to their smartphone in ten seconds or less
  • The launch of MindTap Math Foundations, a game-changing approach to developmental studies designed to tackle the ongoing problem of college readiness
  • The acquisition of WebAssign, a digital learning solutions company, strengthening its market position in STEM
  • Collaborative efforts to promote workforce development with programs enabling adults to earn accredited high school diplomas and career certificates.

“BostInno’s 50 on Fire celebrates Boston’s top innovators, luminaries and inventors that have had an important role in changing our industries this year,” said Morgan O’Brien, BostInno Event Coordinator. “From Tech companies to chefs in Food & Drink, 50 on Fire is a collection of people and organizations in different roles, stages and categories who are making a greater impact on the city of Boston through innovative practices. We wanted to recognize Cengage Learning as a finalist in our education category as they continue to show strides in innovation in and beyond the classroom. Their creation of new technologies is revolutionizing how students are retaining information, accessing crucial resources, and preparing for future education. We congratulate them on being a 50 on Fire Finalist.”

BostInno, part of Streetwise Media group, is a digital media outlet and news source covering innovation in tech, startups, business, finance, higher education and city life. The ’50 on Fire’ winners will be announced on December 7th at BostInno’s year-end awards celebration.  A panel of judges, comprised of industry-specific community leaders and influencers, evaluate and choose the winners.
