National Geographic Learning and University of Bahrain Partner on First National Geographic Learning Regional Resource Center in the Middle East
Center Connects Students to English Language Learning Materials
Zallaq, Bahrain and BOSTON, November 6 – National Geographic Learning (NGL), a Cengage company, and University of Bahrain (UOB) opened the first National Geographic Learning resource center outside of North America and Europe today 6th November 2017. President of Cengage International Alexander Broich and UOB president Professor Riyad Hamzah led the opening of the center.
The National Geographic Learning resource center at UOB builds on an existing partnership based on English language learning for the University’s orientation year students. The new center is a state of the art facility that enables students to accelerate English language development through a combination of technology and 7000 new books provided by NGL. The new center represents a significant investment for NGL in Bahrain as it continues to expand its education footprint in the region. Up to 3,000 students daily will have access to the center and its learning resources through a combination of direct access and online platforms.
President of UOB, Professor Riyad Hamzah, said, “This partnership is a wonderful investment in not just UOB, our students but also in Bahrain. Through the NGL resource center, we are able to help improve our students’ English language skills but also enhance their critical thinking and creativity in a vibrant and state of the art setting. We are delighted to be long-term partners with NGL who have already delivered leading edge and personalized learning resources for both students and teachers. We expect to see improved student outcomes through the investment in learning resources, technology and our teaching”.
“Our partnership with the University of Bahrain and the opening of the National Geographic Learning resource center is great example of Cengage’s commitment to Bahrain and the greater region,” said Alexander Broich, President, Cengage International. “We’re excited to provide access to quality English language learning materials for local students.”
Presidents of other universities in Bahrain attended the opening of the center, as well as NGL contributors. Joining were John Hughes, NGL teacher, teacher trainer and course book author, and Donald Freeman, Senior Advisor for the NGL ELTeach professional development initiative, and a Professor of Education at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
