Education To Go Announces First-Ever Recipient of the National IMPACT Award

Award Goes to Portland Community College For Its Exceptional Offering of Online Career Training Courses

Education To Go (ed2go), a leading provider of online courses for adult and continuing education students and part of Cengage Learning, today announced the creation of the National IMPACT Award. This monetary award recognizes an ed2go college or university partner who offers a uniquely strong commitment to community outreach, workforce development and student access through online learning opportunities. Portland Community College, Portland, Oregon, is the first recipient of the National IMPACT Award and will use the money to finance a scholarship fund for future Portland Community College/ed2go participants.

Portland Community College was chosen as the recipient of the award because the school offers more than 300 noncredit online courses and online career training programs in partnership with ed2go. Since 2000, Portland Community College has been the most successful ed2go community college partner with thousands of students taking ed2go online courses through the institution.

“Ed2go courses help us meet our goal of increasing access to educational opportunities for our community members by providing both professional development and personal enrichment training that is flexible, cost effective and easily accessed by students,” said Dr. Preston Pulliams, Portland Community College District President. “This partnership has a significant impact on our community, attracting many students who might not otherwise have come to campus for a classroom session.”

Jerry Weissberg, Vice President, Cengage Learning, and General Manager for ed2go, said, “Portland Community College is a fine example of how an ed2go partnership can be of great benefit to a local community. We are honored to recognize Portland Community College as our first National IMPACT Award winner for their outstanding efforts with innovative activities and projects outside of the normal open enrollment catalog and marketing work. Portland Community College has an obvious commitment to distance learning and with ed2go is able to provide great benefit to all of its students.”

All ed2go college and university partners are eligible for the National IMPACT Award. Additional award winners will be announced throughout the year.
