Gale and Detroit Zoological Society Partner to Distribute Science Content
Gale, part of Cengage Learning, and the Detroit Zoological Society today announced an agreement to distribute animal conservation and animal welfare related content through Gale’s new Grzimek’s Animal Life Web resource. As a result of the agreement, the new content will be accessible to library users and Detroit Zoological Society members (Supporter level and higher) and Zoo employees.
An interactive, media-rich knowledge portal, Grzimek’s Animal Life provides information on nearly 4,000 species, covering topics such as evolution, habitat, behavior, conservation status and more. Continuously updated, the content provides a true educational experience, where users can find answers to specific questions, discover new details about animals they are familiar with, and learn more about little-known animals in new and exciting ways.
Grzimek’s Animal Life will now feature articles, multimedia files, photographs and illustrations provided by the Detroit Zoo and will provide a link to additional information on the Zoo’s website.
“Grzimek’s Animal Life is considered one of the best and most comprehensive animal reference sources available,” said Jason Bass, Gale’s associate publisher for general reference. “Adding content from the Detroit Zoo will be a great addition to the more than 12,000 photos, maps, videos, audio clips and interactive tools that are now available through this resource.
“The Detroit Zoological Society makes great efforts to protect threatened and endangered species” continued Bass. “This partnership will help to distribute information on these efforts into libraries and classrooms across the country.”
“Partnering with Gale will allow us to bring some of the Detroit Zoo’s treasures to anyone who has access to the unique and highly acclaimed Grzimek’s Animal Life,” said Ron Kagan, Executive Director of the Detroit Zoo. “We are excited to be able to provide free access to Grzimek’s for anyone who is a Detroit Zoological Society Supporter level member or higher, as well as to all Zoo staff.”
