Library Journal Recognizes Three Gale Titles as Best Reference Sources
Gale, part of Cengage Learning, announces that three of its encyclopedias were named Best Reference Sources for 2009 by Library Journal.
“It is a great honor for three of our titles to be recognized among the best reference sources,” said Frank Menchaca, executive vice president of publishing at Gale. “Being on Library Journal‘s Best Reference list lends prestige to these works, and we are very pleased that these publications are listed among other distinguished titles.”
Gale’s Best Reference Sources for 2009 include:
Encyclopedia of Environmental Ethics and Philosophy–The field of environmental ethics is a new but now well-established sub-discipline of philosophy. The Encyclopedia of Environmental Ethics and Philosophy addresses the needs of upper high school students, undergraduate researchers, teachers and professors, as well as general readers by examining the philosophical and ethical issues underlying contemporary and historical environmental issues, policies and debates. More than 300 peer-reviewed articles cover relevant concepts, institutions, topics, events and people, including global warming, animal rights, environmental movements, alternative energy, green chemistry, industrial ecology and eco-sabotage. Additional features include 200 photographs and illustrations, a thematic outline, an annotated bibliography and a comprehensive index.
Encyclopedia of Modern China–A Dartmouth Medal Honorable Mention recipient in 2010, this encyclopedia showcases the work of an international body of prominent scholars, who offer original and authoritative analysis of all aspects of the history and culture of China since 1800. The Encyclopedia of Modern China is designed for academic and professional users—from advanced high school students and undergraduates to professors, journalists and business people—as well as public library patrons. The Encyclopedia of Modern China brings reliable facts, analysis and understanding to those who study and interact with people in Chinese culture.
The Gale Encyclopedia of Surgery and Medical Tests–This encyclopedia is written especially for patients and allied health care students by experts in the field. The Gale Encyclopedia of Surgery and Medical Tests provides in-depth coverage of 535 surgical procedures, medical tests and related topics, such as anesthetics, common lab test and procedures, medications and postoperative care.
