Milady Supports Future Beauty and Wellness Professionals at SkillsUSA Conference
Participation in the National Leadership and Skills Conference Motivates Students and Recognizes Outstanding Abilities
Milady, part of Cengage Learning and a leading provider of beauty and wellness learning solutions, today announced its participation in the 46th annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC). More than five-thousand outstanding career and technical education students from across the country will meet this month at the conference in Kansas City, Missouri to compete in 96 different trade, technical and leadership categories.
SkillsUSA, a national nonprofit organization serving high school and college students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, hosts the annual conference to recognize and develop future leaders. Milady is committed to lifelong learning and the skills-based professional, making it an ideal partner for the SkillsUSA NLSC event.
At this year’s conference, Milady will be represented by Lisha Barnes, Maria Hebert and Elizabeth Edwards, all industry experts, beauty and wellness educators and Milady employees. Together they will serve on both the Hair and Nails Technical Committees, and provide judging for the Hair and Nails Competitions. For the Esthetics Competition, Milady representatives will prepare written exams for the competing students and will serve as judges for the competition.
“Despite the difficult economy, there has been a strong demand for beauty related services and well-trained professionals to perform them,” said Dawn Gerrain, president, Milady. “We are committed to providing beauty and wellness students with the materials, resources and motivation they need to learn and master their skills. We are proud to support the SkillsUSA organization and all of the students at this year’s conference.”
Cengage Learning will be playing a large role in this year’s event. Delmar, part of Cengage Learning and a leading provider of learning solutions for ongoing career development and education, will again be the exclusive sponsor of the prestigious Advisor of the Year Award, which is given to a high school or secondary school instructor whose teaching program has had a successful impact on students. Delmar representatives interviewed all of the candidates and will award the winner during the conference’s opening ceremony. Cengage Learning employees also served on several committees and provided help with competitions in various areas, including automotive skills and building trades skills.
